Q: How large is the race?

A: The Charlottesville Marathon is a small, boutique event with a limited field. If you prefer large events, this is not one of them.

 

Q: What is the course like?

A: The course is very scenic, hilly and challenging and is a mix of quiet roads and bike paths, all paved. This is not a flat course. The course profile can be found by clicking on the bottom left on the mountain icon on the interactive map.

Q: Are there spectators on the course?

A: Spectators on the course are present in the neighborhoods and around Downtown. We have great support from all our volunteers at the water stops.

 

Q: What is the race time limit?

A: 6 hours for the Marathon, 3.5 hours for the Half Marathon.

 

Q: When does registration close?

A: Online registration closes the Thursday before the event. On-site registration is available at packet pickup.

 

Q: Does the Charlottesville Marathon, Half Marathon use Chip Timing?

A: Yes, the MyLaps Bib Tag system.

 

Q: What is the start and finish location?

A:  Start & Finish location.

 

Q:  Is this race for Walkers?

A:  The time limit will be STRICTLY enforced. If you can complete the event in the strict time limit (see above), you can walk or run. Anyone reaching the water stops beyond the time limit will be ask to return to the finish, no exceptions.

 

Q:  Are strollers or pets allowed?

A:  No. This is an open course and strollers or pets on a leash are a safety issue.

Q: Are there port-a-johns at the race start and on the race course?

A: Yes, see the course map for information on port-a-potties locations

 

Q: Is the course open to vehicular traffic?

A: Yes, this is an OPEN course and traffic is present on the roadways.  Runners must always run AGAINST TRAFFIC unless instructed otherwise by police or volunteers.

 

Q: What is the official nutrition of the Charlottesville Marathon?

A: There will be Gatorade and gels provided throughout the course of the Charlottesville Marathon. Please refer to the course information tab.

 

Q: What is the age requirement for the Marathon, Half Marathon?

A: The age requirement for the Marathon is 12 years old. The age requirement for the Half Marathon is 10 years old.

 

Q: What is the temperature in Charlottesville this time of year?

A: The average temperature is 66 degrees, but can vary.

 

Q: Will there be a "sag" vehicle?

A: No.

 

Q: Is there anything for families to do during the race?

A: Yes. There are plenty of activities, shops and restaurants along the pedestrian friendly historic Downtown Mall.

 

Q: Do participants receive a Finishers medallion?

A: Yes, each finisher of the Marathon and Half Marathon receive a race medal.

 

Q: How do I receive my Race Packet?

Q: Can runners use headphones during the race?

A: No; for safety reasons headphones and other devices that impair runners from hearing cars and other obstacles are not allowed.
